Breaking Through with Data – Climate wins Predictive Analytics Innovation Award

Posted April 5, 2022 by Jeff Healey, Vice President of Marketing, Vertica Product Group in Micro Focus

There are many impressive stories of data-driven organizations that use Vertica to derive near-instant analytical insight from troves of data. And many of those analytical use cases have a positive impact on our lives. But, there’s always that one profound story that makes us pause, that fills us with hope for how analytics and machine learning really can change the world.

That story is from Climate LLC, Bayer’s digital farming arm, which announced that its Climate FieldView™ platform has been selected as the winner of the “Predictive Analytics Solutions of the Year” award in the third annual Data Breakthrough Awards program conducted by Data Breakthrough, an independent market intelligence organization that recognizes the top companies, technologies, and products in the global data technology market.

Digital agriculture is one of the most exciting new frontiers in the advance of technology and science. It serves as a central capability to increase crop yields for a growing population, right-size farm inputs to reduce environmental impact, and enable farmers to more purposefully navigate the rising complexity in decisions they must make for their fields throughout the year.

Millions of acres of clean data – well curated and organized, across a range of geographical and management conditions – is the future of sustainable agriculture. Vertica plays a key role in the technology landscape at Climate, as the embedded analytical engine behind Climate FieldView™, which provides the analytical and spatial functions that enables Climate to sift through the diverse data sets and get an accurate lay of the land to enable decisions from the direction of new products to the accuracy of their scientific models.

“We are grateful to Data Breakthrough for this award, and a very special thank you to Vertica for the nomination,” said Erich Hochmuth, Director of Analytics Engineering at Climate. “We believe that farmers need access to tools that support the decisions they make every day to maximize their return on every acre. Our mission is to help farmers around the world sustainably increase their productivity through the use of digital tools. Our next breakthrough on the farm will happen off the farm, as we use data analytics at scale to achieve value for our farmers.”

Congratulations to Climate on this well-deserved recognition for Climate FieldView. To hear similarly inspiring stories from the top data-driven leaders in the technology industry, join us at Vertica Unify ’22.
