Last week, the virtual chapter of DataGals started with their kick off event: Come here, go anywhere! Joy King, VP of Product Management, Product Marketing, and Field Engagement for Vertica talked about her experience and journey in her career.

Joy has been with the company for 30 years, surviving many acquisitions and has held a variety of roles. Here are some takeaways as presented by Crystal Farley (North), the leader of the virtual DataGals chapter:

• Embrace your weaknesses and turn them into strengths that better yourself, your company, and your team.

• A mentor and a ventor are different and should not be confused.

• Listen to the people around you.

• You can do it all, just not all at the same time.

We were pleased to have attendees dial-in and have people attend on-site in Cambridge, including Vertica’s CTO, Ben Vandiver.

If you missed the live session, you can catch the talk here! A big thank you to Joy for her excellent talk and for all the work she does for Vertica!
