Course Description:
Get started with Vertica by taking our introductory course. Over three days, you will receive comprehensive training to maximize your understanding and usage of the Vertica Analytics Platform. Vertica has been designed from the ground-up using a columnar orientation, rather than a row-based orientation; you will see the advantages of this integration in every facet of our platform. This class combines lectures with hands-on lab exercises performed in a live Vertica database cluster.
Topics covered include:
- Overview of the platform architecture
- Installing the Vertica Analytics Platform and related documentation
- Creating and populating a Vertica database containing multiple schemas
- Using the Database Designer to optimize design
- Loading data into the Vertica database
- Permanently removing data from the Vertica database
- Backing up, restoring and recovery of the Vertica database
- Optimizing query performance by managing the Vertica resources
- Monitoring and troubleshooting performance issues
Prerequisite knowledge and experience:
- Intermediate knowledge of RDBMS concepts
- Basic understanding of SQL
- Basic experience with use of the Linux operating system (helpful)

Course Description:
This course provides a comprehensive understanding of general SQL analytics, and the specialized analytics capabilities of the Vertica Analytics Platform. This class combines lectures with hands-on lab exercises performed in a live Vertica database cluster.

- Introduction to the use of SQL Analytics in Vertica
- Optimizing SQL Analytics in Vertica
- Using and defining event-based windows
- Determining gaps in time-based data and interpolating the missing values
- Finding recurring patterns in your data
Prerequisite knowledge and experience:
- Attendance at a Vertica Introduction class, or equivalent experience
- Basic usage of the Vertica Analytics Platform to run queries
- Basic understanding of analytics concepts (helpful)
- Intermediate understanding of SQL

Vertica Advanced Performance Tuning

Course Description:
This intensive course is designed for experienced Vertica administrators who want a deep dive into Vertica to learn how to diagnose and optimize query performance. This class combines lectures with hands-on lab exercises performed in a live Vertica database cluster.

- Pinpointing your longest running queries
- Analyzing queries using system and data collector tables
- Manually tuning projections to optimize query performance
- Modifying settings that control resources dedicated to queries
- Updating and monitoring statistics
- Running Workload Analyzer and interpreting output
- Using the Database Designer (DBD) to tune query performance
Prerequisite knowledge and experience:
- Attendance at a Vertica Introduction class, or equivalent experience
- Intermediate experience running queries in Vertica Analytics Platform
- Intermediate experience with administration of Vertica Analytics Platform
