Vertica Analytic Database Named a Productivity Winner in Database Engines and Data Tools Category
BILLERICA, Mass., March 12, 2009 – Vertica was named yesterday a winner of TechWeb’s 19th annual Jolt Product Excellence and Productivity Awards at a gala award ceremony held during Software Development West 2009 Conference and Expo (SD West) at the Santa Clara Convention Center. The ceremony was hosted by Andrew Binstock, Technology Analyst, Columnist, Editor and Jolt Judge.
For the past 18 years, the Jolt Product Excellence Awards have been presented annually to products and books that have “jolted” the industry with their significance and made the task of creating software faster, easier and more efficient. The awards presentation is sponsored by JOLT, the fabled soft drink quaffed by software developers for sustenance during project development marathons.
“Our mission is to give more people faster access to larger volumes of data,” said Dave Menninger, vice president of marketing and product management at Vertica Systems. “Our software is designed to support this mission and we are continually innovating to bring more speed and flexibility to this cause. Our customers recognize this, and being included in the Oscars of the software development industry means our peers do as well.”
The Vertica Analytic Database relies on a unique columnar, MPP architecture and pioneering data compression to reduce storage requirements by as much as 90 percent, dramatically cutting hardware overhead and energy consumption so customers can analyze larger amounts of data at a fraction of the cost. The Vertica Analytic Database can operate directly on that compressed data, delivering query results 50 to 200 times faster than other databases.
The Vertica Analytic Database was named a Productivity Winner in the category of Database Engines and Data Tools.
