The software expands Vertica’s FlexStore architecture, an open framework that empowers clients to connect to any data, including structured, semi-structured or unstructured, stored in any location.
Today, organizations of all sizes are faced with the challenge of “Big Data”—mountains of data piling up from a number of disparate data sources, including operations and networks, user data, social-networking sentiment and machine sensors. The HP Vertica Analytics Platform is the only analytics platform purpose-built to enable organizations of all sizes to monetize all their data at the speed and scale they need to thrive today.
With Vertica 6, HP is advancing big-data analytics to a new level of usability and performance. Clients can locate data where it makes sense and access it through their interface of choice, including standard structured query language (SQL); business intelligence (BI) tools; or advanced analytics languages, such as R. This universal data access framework, along with Vertica’s massively parallel architecture, allows users to gain richer insights into all their data in a much shorter timeframe. Vertica offers a more comprehensive approach to information management than competitive solutions, which merely summarize or aggregate data, often resulting in the loss of key details.
“Vertica 6 takes our concept of ’Analytics Everywhere’ to a new level by expanding the Vertica FlexStore architecture to provide access to any data, stored anywhere, using any interface,” said Colin Mahony, vice president and general manager, Vertica, an HP Company. “Now our clients can use the HP Vertica Analytics Platform as an analytics hub, providing access and analysis to harness the power of all their data, to drive growth, advantage and opportunity.”
Support for R in Parallel
As part of the expanded FlexStore architecture, Vertica 6 delivers support for the R programming language, an advanced analytics language preferred by data scientists and analysts for its flexibility and extensibility. Vertica 6 runs R programs in parallel within the platform, allowing users to run more analyses on a much greater amount of data, driving insights and innovations never before possible.
